Pink Floyd’s techniques used in the album ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’

Double Tracking

Wikipedia. (2016). Explains that Double Tracking in the studio is a recording technuique that makes the audio sound stronger and fuller, double tracking is exactly what it sounds and is doubling a track.

Automatic Double Tracking

Wikipedia. (2015). Revealed that Automatic double tracking is a recording technique designed to enhance voices or instruments. It uses tape delay to make a copy of an audio signal which is then added to the original. The technique was originally developed in the Abbey studios at the request of the Beatles.

Synthi A – Sequencer

Wikipedia. ( 22 September 2016). States that a sequencer is a device which can record, edit or play back music,  The Synthi A was used on the Pink Floyd album track ‘On the Run’. It was first produced in 1971 and is housed in a Spartanite  Suitcase. The Synthi A is a very expensive unit and very rare.

Importing Loops

Importing loops is a very useful technique when creating music as it saves having to copy and paste tracks or even re-record tracks, which can be very time consuming, instead you can add a loop to your music which will repeat throughout your piece.

Pedal Steel

Glimourish . (2016). Says that Pedal Steel is a instrument mostly linked with country music, it is very rare to hear a pedal steel in todays music. This instrument is played like a Hawaiian guitar but set on a stand with pedals to adjust the tension of the strings. The Pedal Steel is one of the reasons why the album ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ By Pink Floyd was such a phenomenon in the music of their era and also the reason that the band had such an influence on other bands.

In this album the Pink Floyd band used a range of different techniques that have never been used before; for example they were the first to play along with a Loop, which no other mainstream  band had done before.+
